Swift response sees charity back in business
Less than a week after the pandemic caused it to close, a local charity is to start helping islanders again thanks to a swift response from the Sure Community Foundation and Resolution IT.
Following the announcement of the island’s second lockdown, organisations needed to swiftly re-activate working from home procedures. Unfortunately, Citizens Advice’s volunteers were unable to work from home due to ageing IT and phone systems and was forced to suspend all services.
Thanks to the local businesses’ support, Citizens Advice Guernsey will begin offering advice over the phone from today, with volunteers working remotely from their homes for the first-time, utilising the upgraded telephone and IT system.
CEO Kerry Ciotti: “I can’t tell you how grateful we are for this timely and generous offer of help. It means that we can offer the same quality of service over the phone throughout lockdown, which is when many Islanders will be wanting our help.”
Mrs Karen Jagger, of the Sure Community Foundation, commented: “It’s so important that we keep islanders connected at this time and a huge part of that is enabling them to access vital services. We are always looking for opportunities to help local charities and helping Citizens Advice with their telecoms needs was a no-brainer for the Foundation.”
Citizens Advice Guernsey is offering free, confidential and impartial advice over the telephone from Monday 2nd February 2021, operating from 0930-1230 on weekdays. To access advice call 242266. Full opening hours will resume as soon as the charity’s office on Bridge Avenue is able to reopen.
